Former Adobe Executive Robin Ducot to Lead Development of Web Experiences Integrated with Second Life, Following Launch of the New SecondLife.com

San Francisco — August 31, 2009 - Linden Lab®, creator of the virtual world Second Life®, today announced the appointment of Robin Ducot as Vice President of Web Development. Reporting directly to CEO Mark Kingdon, Ducot will oversee the company's diverse array of Web properties, sites and services. Specifically, Ducot will work to expand the company's Web infrastructure and architecture, offering complementary lightweight Web experiences that extend the value of Second Life beyond the virtual world and help Residents more closely integrate Second Life with their daily lives.

Linden Lab has greatly expanded its Web presence in 2009, adding services and resources that complement the immersive Second Life experience and broaden the overall audience for virtual worlds. This includes the acquisition of Xstreet SL, which added an ecommerce component to the inworld virtual goods shopping experience, and the launch of AvaLine, a service that allows Residents to receive cell, landline or VoIP calls inworld from people outside of Second Life. Additional Web features, such as searchable maps and the launch of localized Web sites in key international markets, have helped make Second Life more accessible, usable and enjoyable for new and existing users around the world.

"Linden Lab's core mission from inception has been to harness the power of immersive 3D environments to improve the way people communicate, create and collaborate. The Web plays an absolutely vital and complementary role in this mission and in the overall Second Life experience, offering new ways to connect with and benefit from the virtual world,"said Mark Kingdon, CEO of Linden Lab. "This is the latest in a string of major hires for Linden Lab as we continue to lead the next wave of virtual world usage and development by significantly renovating and evolving our core offering. Over the least year, we've been able to add some of the best minds in engineering, interface design, user experience, international strategy and now Web development. Robin's experience will be vital as we continue to offer our Residents new and improved ways to integrate Second Life with their daily lives and expand the overall audience for virtual worlds."

In addition to announcing Ducot's appointment, Linden Lab has recently launched a complete overhaul of SecondLife.com, the culmination of more than a year's work. The project was originally publicized in December 2008 with the launch of a new, interactive homepage and was followed by subsequent announcements including a dashboard that organizes popular Web-based features onto one centralized, customizable interface. With this launch, Linden Lab has extended the interactivity of the homepage to the rest of the site, enhanced the functionality of the dashboard and improved search, making it easier to find, buy and sell virtual goods in Second Life. The reach and value of SecondLife.com will continue to evolve under Ducot's leadership, with the company planning to add more tools for discovery, sharing, creativity and customization in the near future.

"Linden Lab has invested heavily in its Web properties over the last year, creating new tools and products that increase the value of the Second Life experience, both in the virtual and real world,"said Robin Ducot, VP of Web Development of Linden Lab. "We have a tremendous opportunity to further leverage the Web to enhance the Resident experience with new ways to connect with the virtual world, and to grow Second Life's global user base, while also providing new revenue streams for the company. Mark and his team have built a tremendous foundation and I'm excited to continue to push the boundaries and refine our Web offerings."

Ducot brings almost 20 years of engineering, project management and Web interface development expertise to Linden Lab. Prior to joining the company, Ducot served as VP of Web Development at Adobe Systems where she managed Adobe.com, distribution of the Adobe Reader and Flash Player, and Web services for Adobe's SaaS offerings. During her tenure at Adobe, Ducot provided organizational leadership for a team of 240 creative and technology professionals. Prior to joining Adobe, Ducot was VP of Web Development at Macromedia (acquired by Adobe), where she drove the redesign and re-architecture of Macromedia.com, a site that catered to seven million unique users a month. Her career also includes senior management positions at Avolent, and Reuters, as well as senior technical roles AT&T and BGS Systems. Ducot holds a BS in Computer Science and Art History from the University of Massachusetts. Also active in the non-profit sector, Ducot sits on the board of Southern Exposure, an organization that promotes art and art education.
