LINDEN LAB OPENS DOORS TO TEEN SECOND LIFE
Teens from around the globe build a world according to their rules
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — (August 8, 2005) — Linden Lab®, creator of the acclaimed 3D digital world Second Life®, today announced the introduction of Teen Second Life, an international gathering place exclusively for teens 13-17 where they can make friends, create, play and learn. Teen Second Life lets teens from around the world create an environment all their own that is restricted only by their imaginations. Teens can purchase a Teen Second Life account giving them full access to in-world events, shopping, building, and scripting for as little as just $9.95 and it all starts today at teen.secondlife.com.
"Teen Second Life opens a whole world of creativity and global friendship to teens" said Robin Harper, SVP Community. "In their own version of Second Life, teens have a special place where they can meet people from around the world, listen to music, design or buy clothes and work together on building the world the way they want it to be."
In addition, Teen Second Life provides teens with the tools they need to learn 3D graphics, programming and game design, animation and film-making and even to make a real income. Because Teen Second Life grants teens ownership of their intellectual property, they can sell anything they make in-world, start a business and trade the in-world currency for real dollars.
"Thousands of residents in Second Life are making real world incomes in-world." said Philip Rosedale, CEO of Linden Lab. "Now, with the introduction of Teen Second Life, many creative and entrepreneurial teenagers will have the opportunity to earn a nice after-school income."
"Teen Second Life is a great way for me to express my imagination, meet people and make friends," said Teen Second Life resident Aesop Thatch. "I found that I really liked hanging out with other people, helping newbies learn their way around and exploring all the cool stuff people have been building. Last week, I met up with some friends from London and Paris, checked out a flea market and made myself a new robot avatar. Overall it's lots of fun and I've picked up some programming skills along the way."
